Easton, PA (WLVR)- Australia, is literally ‘half way around the world’. But there are those with roots down-under who make the Valley their home… and a few of them have organized a relief event in response to the wildfires that have devastated that country.
“We all know someone is affected directly by the bushfires,” said Jason Hoy, owner of the Australian cafe, Tucker Silk Mill in Easton. He lived in Australia 40 years before moving to the Valley.
“When I grew up as a kid, we would have bushfires, and they were fast. They were low intensity, and they were a normal thing within the landscape. Bushfires now are out-of-control, monster fires that decimate forests and millions of acres of land,” he said
The Aussie Bushfire Benefit is this Sunday, 2-6 PM – At Tucker Silk Mill in Easton. Co-sponsored by the bakery, Pie and Tart. All proceeds go to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service. For information about the event, click HERE.
