Lehigh County- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is saying it’s not a matter of if, but when more cases are diagnosed here in the United States.

WLVR’S Brittany Sweeney paid a visit to a local hospital to talk about how the Lehigh Valley can prepare.

Day to day the number of novel coronavirus cases continues to climb.

The CDC now urging the public to be informed and discussing their plan of attack when faced with a potential outbreak here in the U.S.

But it’s not time to panic, says the Infectious Disease Specialist for St. Luke’s University Health Network.

Dr. Jeffrey Jahre compared the impact to that of the flu.

“There have been no deaths from Corona virus in the United States. So far, we’ve had over 14-thousand deaths from the current strains of flu that have been circulating and over 100 children have died coronavirus hasn’t done that,” says Jahre.

Like the flu, it’s believed the coronavirus does not thrive in warmer conditions, so Dr. Jahre believes if we can continue to prevent the spread for a few more months — we could see a decline in cases.

Approximately 60 coronavirus cases have been diagnosed in the U.S. — but none so far in Pennsylvania.
