Gov. Wolf to reopen 24 PA counties May 8 to yellow phase

May 4, 2020

A third of Pennsylvania counties can begin the process of lifting stay-at-home orders this week. Governor Tom Wolf says today 24 counties in north-central and northwestern PA can begin reopening some businesses May 8th.

“We selected these counties in part because they have low per capita case counts. They were selected in part because we feel we’re ready when it comes to areas like contact tracing and testing,” said Governor Wolf.

Friday, the counties, none of which are in the Lehigh Valley, can begin the process of resuming some in person operation as they move from the current red phase to the yellow phase.

“But they must continue to abide by the underlying message of yellow- proceed with caution – this includes retailers that can implement social distancing measures as well as services such as childcare.”

Schools will remain closed and where possible telework must continue. Wolf said he anticipated the south west and south central part of the state could begin reopening down the road.
