For the first time in 50 years, Lehigh University is opening a new college. The College of Health welcomed its first class in August.

WLVR’s Brittany Sweeney explores what it’s like opening in the middle of a pandemic.

Dr. Whitney Witt is the inaugural dean for Lehigh University’s College of Health.

She says there are about 60 students currently enrolled this first semester with an additional 20 earning a certificate at the school.

“We are the first university in the world, actually, to offer undergraduate, graduate and executive programs in population health science with a focus on health, innovation and technology. So we are really planting our flag in the sand,” said Witt.

Construction on the Health, Science and Technology building is underway off Webster Street in South Bethlehem and will open in the fall of 2021.

Right now, most classes are being offered virtually.
