LVHN front-line nurse Chantal Branco received the first COVID-19 vaccine through Emergency Use Authorization. LVHN Dr. Yozviak answered questions during Facebook Live.

The Lehigh Valley’s first COVID-19 mass vaccine clinic will open next Wednesday at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom.

But limited supply under Operation Warp Speed is slowing down delivery. So is uncertainty about the number of doses to expect week to week.

Dr. Robert Murphy of Lehigh Valley Health Network explains.

“It’s kind of like lining all the participants in a marathon equally along the starting line but not having a starting gun or a flag to drop to get things started,” Murphy says.

Wednesday’s drive-through clinic will vaccinate people 75 and older, and only those with an appointment. The vaccinations are free.

Murphy says LVHN expects to expand with mass vaccination sites in Northampton County and the Poconos when it’s assured of adequate supply.

Once that happens, according to a spokesman, the health network has capacity at Dorney Park alone to vaccinate at least 5,000 people per day.
