For the first time in its nearly 200-year history, the Philadelphia Flower Show is leaving the Pennsylvania Convention Center and going outdoors. But this year, the show won’t bloom in time to cure winter blues.
Last year, the Flower Show which usually takes place in March, hosted 250,000 visitors. The new, socially-distanced Flower Show will be held June 5-13 and cover 15-acres at FDR Park near the Sports Complex in South Philly.
Mike McGrath, host of “You Bet Your Garden” on WLVR, says many visitors come to get relief from the winter doldrums.
“We won’t be the Prozac that people are looking for. I can easily see any of the exhibits that we put on transferring to the outdoors. And any gardener will tell you that your plants will never look better than in early June,” McGrath says.
The landscape of the park will be incorporated in the show, McGrath says.
Tickets for the Philadelphia Flower Show will go on sale this month.
