After 10 years of planning and fundraising, the Bethlehem Food Co-Op recently announced the future location of its new grocery store.

Speaking via a Facebook Live on Saturday, Board Chair Kelly Allen welcomed volunteers to the site at 250 East Broad Street.

“This is the culmination of a lot of hard work, and there’s still a lot of work to do, but today is a day to celebrate. So thank you very much everyone, and have a good time,” Allen says.

Organizers gave out yard signs and buttons to publicize membership at the drive-thru event.

The community-owned food store will be about 6,500 square feet on the first floor of a new four-story, mixed-use building in north Bethlehem. Upper floors will include residential units. The organization partnered with Peron Development and Boyle Construction on the project.

It’s expected to open some time in 2022.

The Bethlehem Food Co-op has more than 800 members, and is kicking off a capital campaign to raise money for the store this spring.
