Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong presented the State of the County virtually this year.
Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation President Don Cunningham introduced the video.
“2020 was a difficult year. We saw a lot of our small business, our restaurants, our hospitality sector and our service industry close down because of the challenges surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.”
After a moment of silence for those who lost their lives to coronavirus including over one thousand of the county’s own, Phillips Armstrong made a plea.
“To everyone in the county, please, we need herd immunity, to get back to normal we need you when it’s your turn to please get there and get that shot.”
Armstrong said the County is working on opening mass vaccination sites.
Like the way most of these speeches go, it was a fairly positive State of the County address.
He nodded to the County’s balanced budget with no tax increase as well as housing and small business COVID relief. He also touched on the new voting machines; a new drug court to help facilitate rehabilitation; and Cedarbrook Nursing Home’s expansion.
Armstrong’s closing statement thanked those who’ve supported him. He’s running for re-election this year.
