Following President Joe Biden’s announcement April 8 that he would tighten some gun control regulations, both of Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senators spoke out in favor of strengthening background checks.
President Biden outlined several executive actions aimed at reducing gun violence.
U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) says while he and his staff will need to review the executive actions, he believes there is an opportunity to strengthen the background check system.
Toomey appreciates the president’s willingness to work with both Republicans and Democrats, and says he’ll support background check reform if it’s aimed at “keeping guns away from those who have no legal right to them.”
U.S.Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) applauded the president and urged his Senate colleagues to pass legislation coming out of the House that supports stronger background checks.
Casey also says the Senate should ban military style assault weapons, limit the size of magazines, and pass legislation to support survivors of gun violence.
