A new campaign encourages shoppers to support Lehigh Valley businesses as they rebound from a lengthy closure. WLVR’s Stephen Jiwanmall reports.

It’s called “Shop Small 86,” and the idea is to spend money at local businesses for 86 days. Jessica O’Donnell from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce says that’s how long many businesses have been closed.

“That is an eternity for businesses, the unknown and how they’ve had to try to pivot and adapt to get their marketing out there and say, ‘Hey, we’re still here.’”

Businesses like The Refinery Fitness in Coopersburg have been posting ads and promoting each other in the campaign’s Facebook group. Brielle Baker is the gym’s co-owner.

“Allentown, Easton, Bethlehem – all coming together to support these small businesses that are trying to accomplish these big goals, these big dreams and we need each other to survive, really,” said Baker.

The campaign ends September 30, but the Chamber hopes people will keep shopping local after that.
