Allentown’s Police Chief is leaving the post.

The city announced today that Police Chief Glenn Granitz has resigned to accept the same position in West Reading, Berks County.

In a statement, Allentown Mayor Ray O’Connell commended Granitz for his leadership which has included lowering the crime rate while at the same time strengthening the department’s relationship with the community.

Officials in West Reading say Grantiz beat out 23 other candidates from across the Mid-Atlantic region. Mayor Andrew Kearney said he was thrilled that Granitz was taking the position.

Granitz served the Allentown Police Department for nearly 20 years. He has been its chief since 2019.

His resignation is effective June 16. There is no word from city officials as to who will serve as his replacement.
