William Reynolds appears to have won the Democratic nod in Bethlehem’s mayoral race.
The Bethlehem city councilman may have beat his opponent Dana Grubb by about 1,500 votes.
Even as Reynolds examines what brought about his success, he also talks about what’s next.
He credits his lead in the polls to outreach work.
“We’ve built a coalition over the last several months of people throughout our city, in every corner of our city. People that want to see a different type of community. Retirees, teachers, environmental activists, social justice advocates,” Reynolds says.
Reynolds says his lead in the polls stems from the efforts of his supporters.
“We’re very excited and humbled by the results from yesterday. We’ve spent months knocking on doors and talking about our vision for the city coming out of the pandemic,” he says.
This is Reynolds’ second bid for mayor. In 2013, he lost by a slim margin to current Mayor Bob Donchez
But this time, It’s different.
“The numbers are pretty clear at this point. We’ll wait for all of the numbers to come in before making any official announcement.”
Reynolds’ opponent, Dana Grubb, did not respond to a request for comment. At a debate WLVR held last week, Grubb said he would support the Democratic nominee for mayor.
Reynolds will face off with Republican candidate and former Lehigh County administrator John Kachmar in November.
