Summer travel is picking up as more people get vaccinated. The American Automobile Association (AAA) expects travel to hit pre-pandemic levels over the next few months.

Listen to the story.

But there are still safety measures in place for those traveling both in and out of the U.S.

As more places open up, safety procedures vary from location to location.

It’s helpful to use a travel agent when booking a trip because they are knowledgeable about the protocols that are in place right now, says Ellen Overcast, a travel safety agent at AAA East Central in Allentown.

“When I do have people traveling, I’m watching up until the day that they leave because there are health forms that need to be filled out, vaccination requirements that are necessary. They have to show proof of vaccination,” Overcast says.

Regulations can vary by resort as well, Overcast says.  Some are still operating at half capacity and some attractions, like swim-up bars and restaurants, are closed.

She adds that airlines are still requiring masks for everyone. And most places require the unvaccinated to wear a mask and social distance.
