With the state set to lift the mask mandate by the end of the month, and Musikfest coming back this summer without any restrictions, there are signs that the pandemic may be winding down.

Alex Michaels, president and chief executive officer of Discover Lehigh Valley, says he sees a bright year ahead.

“This is all speculative, but I’m really feeling strongly about it from what I’m seeing,” Michaels says.

For example, Michaels says, local hotels are already seeing twice the number of guests compared to this time last year.

For the month of April alone, occupancy rates were up more than 118%.

“April was definitely the strongest month this year so far, and I believe May is going to be even better. And, those were our worst months last year, so whenever you see numbers balloon like that, you get really, really excited,” Michaels says.
In an effort to continue this momentum, Discover Lehigh Valley has partnered with the state’s marketing team, Visit PA, on a new tourism campaign set to launch next month.
