Local group Space Kamp will be showcasing its talents at Musikfest this summer. The self-proclaimed rebel hippies formed in 2017 and garnered a following after touring the U.S. and Canada.

Listen to the story.

When you listen to Space Kamp you might start to feel like you’re actually camping in space. Ozain “Oskee” Valoy, half of the duo says Musikfest is just the beginning.

“Did we see ourselves playing Musikfest? Yeah, yeah, we also see ourselves playing in these other festivals like Peach Fest, Cali Music Festival. It’s just a matter of time,” Valoy says.

Trying to pinpoint what genre Space Kamp fits into isn’t simple.

“A lot of people ask us, is it hip hop? Is it reggae? Is it psychedelic rock? We mix all these different kinds of sounds and genres. But I don’t even think we’re mixing genres, I just think we’re doing our honest music,” says the other half of the duo, Adam “Adoo” Viola.

Space Kamp is just starting to take off. The two rappers will be featured in the September issue of ”High Times”, a popular marijuana-themed magazine.

“So to be on it is cool and my buddy Dooey can tell you man, it’s like one of his lifelong dreams,”  Valoy says.

Viola is equally stoked.

“Yeah, I’ve been wanting to be in ‘High Times’ since forever, so that’s cool,” he says.

Space Kamp is releasing its next album in the fall called Butterfly Effect.

Space Kamp’s Musikfest show is scheduled for 11p.m. Aug. 14 at Highmark Blue Shield Community Stage at the Air Products Town Square ArtsQuest Center.
