With Musikfest right around the corner, hotels are preparing after the pandemic pushed last year’s festival mostly online.

This year’s festival is expected to come back in full force.

And let’s just say, if you need a hotel, you might want to make that reservation now because Musikfest organizers are preparing for record crowds.

That would mean the festival would top its highest attendance of 1.2 million people from 2019.

Alex Michaels, president and chief executive officer of local tourism board Discover Lehigh Valley, says it’s possible.

“Hotel and travel is definitely, you know, picking up. We’re not definitely at 2019 levels, but we are getting close,” Michaels said

Travel in general is returning. In May, local hotel occupancy rates were over 70%, well above last year’s rate of 40%.

Overall, Michaels expects occupancy rates of over 80% throughout the Lehigh Valley during the festival.

“Hotels are gearing up for it and are anticipating to be, especially hotels near the venue, are going to be sold out,” Michaels said.

Musikfest runs Aug. 6-15 with a preview night set for Thursday, Aug. 5.
