Work search requirements for Pennsylvanians collecting unemployment resume July 18.
They were put on hold during the pandemic. And now every Saturday at midnight is the deadline for people to submit documentation they are actively looking for jobs.
Pennsylvania’s basic work search requirement is to apply for two jobs and participate in one work search activity each week. This also applies to people who are self-employed, business owners and college students planning to continue receiving Unemployment Compensation benefits.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry states people are allowed to limit work applications to jobs that offer employment and wages similar to what they had before they became unemployed and are located within a 45-minute commute if telework is not available.
Work search activity includes attending a job fair and looking for positions posted on the PA CareerLink system or an online job website.
Pennsylvanians have said finding employment that pays what they previously made pre-pandemic has been tough, and career experts say they anticipate the application process in many fields will be competitive.
The commonwealth’s unemployment rate in June was just under 7%, down from more than 13% this time last year.
