ALLENTOWN, Pa. – In light of a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Pennsylvania  Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh) is partnering with Lehigh Valley Health Network to host a vaccine clinic in Center City Allentown on Aug. 19.

The vaccine clinic is open to anyone over the age of 12 and no appointment is needed to get a dose of the Pfizer shot.

Browne represents part of Lehigh County which includes the city of Allentown.

“With this surge that’s going on right now, we thought it would be a good idea to give opportunities to receive a vaccine if they haven’t received it yet,” he said.

“It’s now even more important for the community to get vaccinated,” he added.

“I think the Valley’s doing as well as other places are, but there’s still a number of people that have not decided to receive the vaccine,” he said.

The clinic is also being held in conjunction with the Salvation Army Lehigh Valley’s Back-to-School Bookbag Giveaway and includes free books from Cops ‘n’ Kids.

Browne said he’s also partnering with La Mega Radio which will give out concert tickets for La India, a popular Puerto Rican artist coming to the SteelStacks on Sept. 25.

“The Latino population in the city is a significant population and we want to make sure they get all the information they need to take advantage of this if they’d like to,” Browne said.

State data shows that less than half of the county’s Hispanic community has received at least one dose. They make up the majority of Allentown’s population.

Allentown health officials have expressed concerns about rising COVID numbers due to the delta variant.

The clinic will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19, at the Salvation Army, 144 N. 8th St., Allentown.
