In an effort to see and recognize their accomplishments, the City of Allentown will raise the transgender flag on Transgender Day Of Visibility.
It’s one of four cities in Pennsylvania that will mark the occasion.
The day, to be celebrated this year on March 31, is designed to celebrate the lives of transgender people and what they have accomplished.
Allentown will raise the light blue, pink and white flag in partnership with the Eastern Pa. Trans Equity Project.
“Trans folk have to overcome stigma and prejudice and the obstacles that our society throws in our way,” said Corinne Goodwin, executive director, “But you know, it’s really about recognizing the people that have actually done that, and accomplished great things.”
The Eastern Pa. Trans Equity Project is based in the Lehigh Valley, but serves almost half of the state, Goodwin said.
The flag raising event is planned for 11:30 a.m. March 31 at Allentown City Hall.
