Governor Wolf plans to move more counties from red to yellow under state’s phased reopening plan

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf says he is planning to announce more counties moving from red to the yellow reopening designation today, May 22. Currently nearly all counties in the greater Lehigh Valley area remain under the red stay-at-home orders. Carbon County is the lone exception, and moved to yellow today. 

Speaking on a call with reporters, the governor also said he is considering taking some areas to the most liberal phase of reopening.

“I’ll be announcing a whole range of counties tomorrow moving from red to yellow, and the hope is we will also be making some counties that might even be moving from yellow to green,” said Governor Wolf.

Twenty four counties — mostly in the northern and western parts of the state — were the first to begin reopening in the yellow phase two weeks ago. 

Social distancing recommendations remain in place under all parts of the phased reopening plan — including masks and limits on public gatherings. 

The yellow designation allows childcare providers and most retail operations to reopen. 

In the green phase, restaurants, movie theaters and gyms would be next on the list.
