LV has a deep digital divide between students who have access to computers and the internet and those who don’t

With the closure of Pennsylvania schools, some districts in the Lehigh Valley have already switched to distance learning. Bethlehem and Easton Area schools have all gone virtual. But Allentown unified schools are still behind the curve.
Allentown has currently been operating in what it calls an enrichment space. Here’s district Superintendent Thomas Parker at a virtual county meeting this week.
“All of our kids have been working through packets online as well as hard copies,” said Parker.
The district is having trouble getting enough electronic devices and internet service to its 17,000 students. The district is working to get in touch with families to assess their needs
“So we’ll know how many devices students need and we’ll understand the issues with connectivity.
Parker says he hopes to have the district switch to distance learning by April 20th
