Republican Jeff Bartos is the latest candidate to officially join the race for Pennsylvania’s 2022 U.S. Senate election.

Bartos is a real estate developer from Montgomery County who was an unsuccessful lieutenant governor candidate in 2018. He also co-founded the Pennsylvania 30 Day Fund, a non-profit that distributes forgivable loans to small businesses in Pennsylvania that are struggling through the pandemic.

A suburban moderate, he signaled in his announcement video that he knows he needs support from followers of former President Donald Trump to win a statewide primary.

“Donald Trump represented someone listening to millions of Pennsylvanians who felt like no one was fighting for them,” Bartos says.

Bartos is the highest-profile Republican to throw his hat in the ring so far.

On the Democratic side of the race, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) have already declared their candidacies.
