Pa. Game Commission considers expanding species for young hunters

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Kids as young as 7 may soon be able to hunt bear in Pennsylvania.
The state Game Commission says it’s considering granting young people licenses to hunt for bear, waterfowl and special wild turkey.
Currently, a mentored hunter can hunt squirrels, rabbits, hares, ruffed grouse, crows, doves, porcupines, woodchucks, coyotes and deer.
Children age 7 and up are eligible if they’re registered with Pennsylvania’s “Mentored Hunting Program.”
It pairs young hunters with a licensed hunting guide, who must be present with them while they hunt.
