Lehigh Valley Public Media is dedicated to bringing you the latest local information on the coronavirus. Each afternoon we welcome medical leaders and community members to weigh in on the situation during our ‘Community Update on Coronavirus.”

WLVR’s Brittany Sweeney hosted Wednesday’s show, and filed this report on what parents need to know as they navigate a global pandemic.

Schools across the commonwealth are out of session for at least two weeks and Pennsylvania’s Governor has asked everyone to practice social distancing — that means NO playdates — and playgrounds are closed.

Dr. Ashleigh Anderson of Kidspeace — an organization that helps children with behavioral and mental health needs — offers tips to parents about talking to their children and helping them through what can feel like an isolating time.

“I think it’s just really important to be honest with them about what this is, what a virus in general is, and to have a developmentally appropriate conversation depending on the age of the child,” said Anderson.

Dr. Anderson also says to go easy on yourself as the parent during this unprecedented situation.

WLVR airs Community Update on Coronavirus weekdays at 3 PM. Watch online at or on our WLVR News Facebook page.

This afternoon, U-S Representative Madeline Dean, and Dr. Luther Rhodes, Lehigh Valley Health Network Chief of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology join the program.
