Pennsylvania health officials on Tuesday ordered COVID-19 vaccine providers to spin up operations ahead of an expected federal booster shot approval.

As of Sept. 17, nearly half the holding areas in the Northampton County Prison were in quarantine due to what officials are calling a “delta outbreak.” Cases have jumped this month from almost none at the end of August to now more than 30 among inmates and employees. 

State health officials are ramping up efforts to get more people vaccinated in Pennsylvania where just over 50% are fully vaccinated. 

The Bethlehem Area School District’s Miller Heights Elementary is operating remotely after a dozen COVID-19 cases affected students in five of its classrooms.

COVID-19 cases are on the rise at the Northampton County Prison (NCP) where just under half of the jail’s nearly 600 inmates are vaccinated.
