In a 5-4 decision Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the state of New Jersey cannot block construction of the PennEast natural gas pipeline on state lands.

Plans for a liquefied natural gas export terminal on the Delaware River in Gibbstown, Gloucester County — and, by extension, for a project that will allow transportation of the highly flammable fossil fuel through the mid-Atlantic region — were greenlighted Wednesday by the Delaware River Basin Commission.

A professional geologist who worked on the Mariner East pipeline project says pipeline builder Sunoco/Energy Transfer prevented him and other geologists from inspecting and reporting on dangerous subsidence, or sinkholes, during construction.
