Police reform

Northampton County is now offering implicit bias training to local police departments as part of the county’s response to both national and local protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Allentown officials are in the process of creating a public safety review board. The goal is to have a body of citizens look into police matters and make reform recommendations.

Local activists who helped spearhead recent social justice protests across the Lehigh Valley, say Allentown City Council’s new plan to address their concerns falls short. WLVR’s Tyler Pratt reports they say the plan isn’t everything they hoped for.

Allentown City Council leaders made a commitment last night to create a dialogue on policing in the community. The city will examine police operations, create a citizen review board, and then discuss the future of law enforcement in the community.

Bethlehem City Council’s Public Safety Committee met this week to discuss possible reforms related to its own police policies.
