‘Be safe behind the wheel’: State police say they’ll focus on holiday drivers

HARRISBURG, Pa. – State police are issuing a warning for Lehigh, Northampton and Bucks counties for the holiday weekend: Be safe behind the wheel.
In a news release, police say that from Friday, Sept. 2, through the end of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5, they will focus on those driving cars.
They say troopers are concentrating efforts on reckless or aggressive drivers, seat belt violations, driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, as well as these violations such as:
Texting While Driving
Handheld Mobile Telephone
Prohibiting Use of Hearing Impairment Devices
Prohibiting Text-Based Communications
Careless Driving
Reckless Driving
During the same holiday period last year, troopers in the region reported 49 crashes and 14 injuries. Twenty-eight DUI arrests were made in the same period.
Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, which operates in the three counties, urges travelers to “think before you drink” throughout holiday celebrations and at all times.
