Some inmates in Lehigh Valley jails will be able to visit loved ones in person after more than a year of COVID-19 lockdowns in Lehigh and Northampton county jails.
People can now schedule visits with Lehigh County Jail inmates but must register online first. The visits will be through glass and all guests will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and required to wear masks.
Northampton County Prison officials aren’t allowing in-person visits yet, citing safety concerns. They are continuing virtual visits.
However, in July some Northampton inmates will be able to take part in rehabilitation programs again. That means some work release opportunities outside the jail and in-person educational and therapeutic classes inside the jail.
Jail officials say inmates must be vaccinated to be eligible for work release.
