Lehigh Valley schools are working to make sure kids’ families are prepared for possible coronavirus outbreak

Bethlehem, PA- With the coronavirus outbreak causing school closures in the state of Washington, educators across the country are preparing for the possibility of having to do the same. The CDC’s director said last week students should prepare to attend virtually. 

Dr. Joseph Roy is superintendent for the Bethlehem Area School District.

“I think she used the term teleschool? And that’s a big nut and a big challenge,” says Roy.

Roy says high school school students would still be able to continue many aspects of their education if there are extended school closures. 

“They have chrome books they can take home. They have curriculum online. We have a learning management system. Elementary will be a lot tougher,” says Roy.

Roy says the district will take directions from state and local officials if they need to close. 

Bethlehem and other area schools have sent notices to families about precautions they are taking to prevent the spread of the virus. 

Currently, there are no known cases of the coronavirus in Pennsylvania.
