LVHN receives three new vehicles to deliver vaccines to homebound

Lehigh Valley Health Network is expanding the way they connect vaccines to the community.
A local car dealership has donated new vehicles to take the shots to those who cannot otherwise get to a clinic.
Lehigh Valley Health Network is now using three brand new SUVs decaled with the words
“Vaccine Vehicle” to take COVID-19 vaccinations to more people.
Bennett Toyota in Allentown donated the fleet.
LVHN CEO Brian Nester says they’re trying to get to people who are having a hard time reaching the vaccine.
“We know that the communities and far-to-reach locations, whether they are rural or inner city, is where the disease burden from the coronavirus has really impacted the most,“ Nester says.
Not only will these vehicles travel to the larger cities in the Lehigh Valley, but to all parts of their coverage area, including Schuylkill, Luzerne, and Lackawanna counties, Nester says.
The effort is expected to take a while to complete.
“We’re planning a full year with these vehicles,” he says, “There are a lot of hard-to-reach places that you know again, just because we make X vaccine available doesn’t mean that everyone has equal access to the vaccine.”
The vehicles will not only take vaccines to people, Nester says, but also will offer rides to those who need to get vaccinated.
