Muhlenberg College sees the rise – and fall – of new COVID-19 cases

Around the end of March and the beginning of April, several local colleges saw COVID-19 outbreaks, including Muhlenberg College which is still taking a hybrid approach to learning. 

Forty-four Muhlenberg students tested positive for COVID in the last week of March, according to college data.

That number shrank to 19 the next week.

Last week it was down to nine. 

Chrysan Cronin, the college’s director and associate professor of Public Health, says it was all about preparation.

“First you have to be confident that you have plans in place to deal with it, and Muhlenberg certainly does,” Cronin says. 

During those weeks, and since, nearly 5,200 tests have been administered to Muhlenberg students and staff.

“Everybody’s burned out, we’re tired. The college has done everything that it can to keep students safe and mentally engaged, but I’m speaking for myself. I know that I’m just at the end, at the end and we still have five more weeks to go,” Cronin says. 

Muhlenberg’s final day of classes is May 14.
