Musikfest looks to rebound in 2021

The governor recently permitted outdoor venues to operate at 20% capacity which could mean a lot for the biggest local outdoor event, Musikfest, come August.
In 2019, Musikfest, the largest free outdoor music festival in the country, saw its highest-ever attendance.
Then, the coronavirus hit.
“Musikfest itself went from having 1.2 million people in person in 2019 to about 20,000 in-person in 2020,” says Curt Mosel, chief operating officer at ArtsQuest, the non-profit behind Musikfest.
Due to the pandemic, ArtsQuest lost 90% of its revenue.
Mosel says the governor’s decision is a sign that things could be getting better.
“Our goal is to get through 2021 and hope that 2022 is a lot more like 2019,” Mosel says.
ArtsQuest is planning discussions with the city, Mosel says, to prepare for this year’s event and, fingers crossed, by August, even more people will be able to attend in person.
