Pennsylvania surpasses 25,000 COVID deaths

Pennsylvania has reached another somber milestone in the pandemic. On March 29, the state surpassed 25,000 COVID-related deaths.
The rate of death, however, was cut in half over the past month. But the number of new COVID cases in the commonwealth is on the rise.
The weekend report from the Pennsylvania Department of Health totals more than 10,000 new cases. And the increase in new infections mirrors a similar trend nationwide, signalling the U.S. may be entering another wave of viral spread.
Health experts continue to express concern about lax masking efforts and social distancing as new variants continue to appear.
To date nearly 5 million Pennsylvanians have received at least one vaccine dose.
