 Seven Generations students meet Biden, leave open the door to future job opportunities at the White House

LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – When President Biden spoke July 28 in Macungie, two third graders and their teacher from nearby Seven Generations Charter School were in the audience. 

The group was invited by The White House to meet President Biden after students Evalise Vargas and Madison Beck wrote to the president to share their ideas with him.

Vargas said she was surprised to land an invitation to the president’s event, but she was happy to attend what she called “the moment.” 

“We don’t really get to see the president. I only get to see him on the news on TV,” Vargas said. “It was amazing. I got to shake his hand and I actually got to talk to him.”

Vargas said she began her conversation with Biden by telling him about herself. 

“I said, ‘My name is Evalise. I am 8 and a half years old.’” 

“And he said, ‘Wow! That’s a double figure,’” Vargas said.

Vargas’ classmate Madison Beck says she was also surprised the president invited her to join him for his speech.

“I was so surprised because I never knew that anyone wanted me to come to one of their events to see them speak,” said Beck.

Megan Ramirez, Vargas and Beck’s teacher at Seven Generations, accompanied them to meet Biden. She said the president complimented her students: He called them “smart.”

“When the girls came up, he just got right down on their level and kind of stood back and took a look at me and said, ‘Oh, you’re their teacher.’ And so that was nice to be recognized in that way for all of us,” Ramirez said. 

As for if Vargas and Beck want to be president one day, they both left the door open to future job prospects at the White House.
