 Storm prompts snow emergency parking rules

Snow emergencies have been declared across the Lehigh Valley, and officials say they are ready to clear the streets, but it will require some help from the public. 

Allentown, Easton, and Bethlehem are all offering free parking in garages to help clear the snow emergency routes.

Mike Alkhal, director of Bethlehem’s Public Works Department wants people to be aware of what’s going on in their neighborhoods.

“Snow routes are all posted with signs that say what day it’s effective on which side of the street, what day of the week and for how long,” Alkhal says.

And if you don’t move your car, it may get towed, he says. 

“We try to give them as much warning as possible. They’ll go around and blow horns announcing that people have to move their cars,” he says, “We understand it’s an inconvenience.”

Typically roads are clear 12 hours after the snow stops, he says. 

Allentown, Easton and Bethlehem are offering free parking in garages to residents along snow emergency routes to which residents can move their cars. For a listing of parking garages, visit your city’s website.
