Thousands of K-12 students return to school across the Lehigh Valley on Tuesday

Thousands of K-through-12 students returned to school this week across the Lehigh Valley. But as WLVR’s Tyler Pratt reports, for many it means logging on from home. 

Allentown started classes virtually and will remain completely online amid the pandemic.

It was a decision made weeks ago as administrators tried to figure out the best way to keep staff and students safe.

Allentown schools Superintendent Thomas Parker said the challenges have been great but the district is ready for the new year.

“Nearly a month ago we made the commitment that we would proceed through this global pandemic based on five key principles: health and safety for all, flexibility, family engagement, high quality instruction and communication. I’m proud to say that our staff, families, students and community have not only risen to the challenge but exceeded expectations.”

The Easton Area School District also started the new year this week. Students there have the option of following a hybrid model, with in-person classes two days a week and online classes the other three days. Bethlehem launched a similar model last week.
