Lehigh County officials making progress in counting mail-in ballots

The Lehigh County Government Center basement was busy Tuesday night as poll workers opened mail-in ballot envelopes and machines counted votes.
Chief Clerk Tim Benyo of the Lehigh County Voter Office says around 12,500 ballots have been counted, and they will continue counting through the night. He believes the first results may come through at around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.
The other big issue of the day was the number of “naked ballots.” There are about 300 ballots so far at about 8:30 p.m. that did have the required secrecy envelope. Those ballots will not be counted unless those voters came and voted in person with a provisional ballot.
Lehigh County has at least 68,000 ballots to work through, with 20,000 more expected to come in through the end of the week.
