PA Secretary of State says there were no major issues with the 2020 primary

For most of Pennsylvania, the 2020 presidential primary is over. A handful of counties were granted extensions due to surges in mail in ballots and civil disturbances. The rest will be releasing returns over the coming days, with possible delays due the number of mail in votes.

And as WLVR’s Tyler Pratt reports, the state’s top election official is saying, despite the many hurdles in this year’s election, there were no major issues. 

Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar took the podium last night in Harrisburg to give an update on Tuesday’s elections. Mamy counties had launched new voting system, there had been some last minute hiccups with the delivery of PPE to polling locations, and the state saw one point eight million vote by mail applications. 

“These are unprecedented times and we are constantly reminded why our democracy has never been so important — and these factors are why I’m so happy to be here today to report today’s election in the commonwealth went remarkably smoothly and we have no widespread issues to report,” said Boockvar

Boockvar says the department did field thousands of calls and questions from voters – like where to find their polling location – but said that was typical. A few locations had some malfunctions, like in Bucks County where ballots were cut to large for machines, but votes were still counted. And there were some complaints, which local election officials will follow up on. But ultimately Boockvar said there were fewer problems than any election in recent history.
