ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Two Lehigh Valley primary election races remain very close according to unofficial numbers.
The 14th Senate District race is a tight one with Allentown School Board member Democrat Nick Miller in the lead by 40 votes over Northampton County Council Member Tara Zrinski.
An attorney for Zrinski, however, said in a written statement that since more than 400 ballots have not yet been counted, the race might not be over.
“The Zrinski campaign intends to exhaust all legal options so that the right of the voters of the 14th Senate District to elect a candidate of their choice is not deprived,” wrote Atty. Matthew Mobilio.
The winner will face Republican Dean Browning in November.
The Republican primary race for the 16th Senate District is even closer.
Bucks and Lehigh County numbers show longtime incumbent Pat Browne trails his challenger Parkland School Board member Jarrett Coleman by 19 votes.
Coleman has already declared victory but Browne has so far remained quiet.
As of Thursday, no candidate had conceded.
Tallies won’t be certified for several more days but that may take longer since a federal case about undated mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania remains unresolved.
Meanwhile, local elections officials are gearing up for a statewide recount.
The head of the Department of State said Wednesday that the Republican U.S. Senate primary race between Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dave McCormick is slim enough to trigger an automatic re-tally of those votes.
